It is revealed that the President and the government should be held directly responsible for preventing the arrest of Mohammed Zaharan Hashim, the mastermind of the Islamist terrorist attack who has an open warrant arrest, which is a source of distress to the entire population of Sri Lanka and for not directly taking action to prevent the April 21 attack.
The Terrorism Investigation Division had obtained an open court warrant in August 2018 for the arrest of Mohammed Zaharan Hashim. Namal Kumara, however, told the media that there was a conspiracy to assassinate the President and the wealth folks and that Nalaka de Silva, the head of the Terrorism Investigation Division, was involved. The Indian media has reported that the President has stated that the 'Ro' spy organization in India is also planning to assassinate him. With the arrest of the head of the Terrorism Investigation Division, Nalaka de Silva, the arrest of Mohammed Saharan Hasim, who held an open warrant was completely avoided for the sake of the Yahapalana government. Investigations into the matter did not reveal any convincing evidence of a plan to assassinate the President, except the utter of words by Namal Kumara.
The parliamentary select committee appointed to look into the Islamist extremist attack has revealed that the government did not take any action to prevent the attack.
It was also revealed that the last meeting of the Security Council was convened on the 19th of February for the national security which should be convened once a month under the chairmanship of the President. It is inevitable that serious accusations were made against the President of not holding the Security Council meeting until the April 21st attack.
The Defense Intelligence Review meeting was held on Tuesday, April 9th. It is held every Tuesday without any discontinuation. Former National Intelligence Chief DIG Sisira Mendis revealed on 29th the details of the attack were not discussed that particular day which was a must to have been discussed.
Former Secretary to the Ministry of Defense Hemasiri Fernando led the Defense Intelligence Review meeting. Even though Minister of Defense Ruwan Wijewardena was to be present at the meeting, he has not participated. Even though the Prime Minister and the present government said that none of them were aware of the attack, a statement by Minister Harin Fernando revealed that the families of the ministers were aware of the attack that took place on April 21st.
However, at a meeting of Senior Police Officers held on April 8th, the President issued sudden statements that he was not aware of any terrorist attack and there can be no doubt that this is a prerequisite to avert any major disadvantages that could take place. Is it the responsibility of the first citizen of the country to blame each other for the catastrophe caused by the pioneers of this Yahapalana government?
