UNP Government behind the Batalanda Incident

  • It was the time when terror enveloped the whole of Sri Lanka. The JVP’s second insurgency was raging. Many were the sacrifices made to appease the demons in human form. They were celebrating and enjoying life while murder squads under their direction were roaming the country looking for prey.

  • Torture chambers were setup at different places. People died by the thousands after suffering brutal torture. Bodies of victims were seen everywhere. They were burnt or dumped in rivers and canals. The buildings which housed the torture chambers were (1) state institutions, (2) private houses which were rented (3) public places and (4) housing complexes.

  • Batalanda detention centre was an alleged detention centre used to torture and exterminate members of  Janatha Vimukthi Peramuna.

  • The government replied brutally showing no mercy and the government has been accused of using detention camps in several places including Batalanda to quell the JVP uprising. These were said to be run by anti-subversive units of the police who were tasked with destroying rebels. It is believed that nearly 5,000-10,000 members of JVP activists were brutally tortured and killed in this camp.

  • Ranil Wickremesinghe was the culprit of being the political authority of the alleged detention center.

  • Batalanda commission was appointed by the government of Chandrika Kumaratunga to look into the violations of human rights and crimes committed at Batalanda torture and detention center.

  • In its report the commission recommended the government to take legal action against then opposition leader Ranil Wickremesinghe. However no legal action was taken against him by any government to date and several who were arrested for their involvement in alleged killings have been revealed to be from organizations such as the Sri Lanka Mahajana Party which was created by Kumaratunge and her husband who himself was assassinated

  • Thousands of JVP youth were killed by the UNP government, not a single dog of those human rights groups or the crooks in UNHCR did not make any noise. Why?

  • Because they were killed by the UNP.

  • Because they were Sinhalese.

  • Because they were Buddhist.

Now the sad thing is JVP is supporting Ranil. Is it because they are scared of him?
