Racism isn't something that began recently. It isn't something that was caused due to innocent people where the blame is put on their account. Sri Lankan is a multi-ethnic, multi-racial, multi linguistic, multi religious and multicultural society. For as long as history can go all citizens of the nation lived in peace & harmony and everyone wanted to do so by moving forward from the past. Political leaders promoted their own interests with their target firmly fixed on the next general elections and not on the welfare of the coming generations and the national interest of the country.
Rather than spreading love, these politicians who are currently ruling the country gave birth to all types of extremist & racist groups and organizations that spread hate among all communities in the country. Attacks such as the Easter Sunday were planned & carried out in order to pave the way for agreements like ACSA, SOFA & MCC which would clearly benefit the current government and in the future if they continue to rule. But, one important fact...this will NOT benefit the citizens of Sri Lanka. Our country will then be considered as an American colony. The Bodu Bala Sena who is in support of the UNP is another extremist organization who should be responsible for the uprise of racism in Sri Lanka. Fighting for the rights of your religion is one thing, but spreading racism in an indirect manner which brainwashes the people is another.
Is it a coincidence or not that it was the very same time when the UNP was in power that the 1983 trouble began which led to a war and killed thousands? The riots & recent Easter Sunday attack? Was this really terrorist attacks or planned under someone’s influence? Because of some corrupted minds, innocent citizens have to face the consequences that are included in the deals and agreements that they are drooling to sign. It's time for us as citizens of the country to put our differences aside and stand together as one, move away from the past and live together in harmony & peace by bringing a leader who we can trust our national security with.
