Environmental Regulations that were broken by the LNG Power Plant.

The Ministry of Power and Renewable Energy has taken measures to construct a 3MW and 300W Liquefied Natural Gas (LNG) plant in Muthurajawela, in land of 46 hectares which violates the environmental regulations without having a proper environmental study. A few distorted facts are being circulated on social media claiming that the so-called environmentalists and the Ministers in charge of the Environmental Department are taking privileges from the Presidential Secretariat to save President Sirisena due to the construction of this plant that is taking place in the area of Pattiyawela which is not so far from Muthurajawela, which comes under the Divisional Secretariat of Wattala.

It is learned that this land with a very old Bo tree is to be used as a national project for the construction of the buildings required for the LNG power plant that is being carried out on a 45 acre government land and a 55 acre land under the Land Reclamation Corporation.

Even when former President Chandrika Bandaranaike Kumaratunga tried to build a cultural center during her period in this very same land, it had been stopped due to the protests of the people in the area.

However, the residents in the area say that the government has taken this land as a state land which is close to the sea for the construction of the LNG power plant, due to the artificial power crisis that has been created in the country.

The Central Environmental Authority that is owned by President Sirisena and Ravi Karunanayake the Minister of Power has already taken the Cabinet approval for this land. As this project is a national project, the Land Reclamation Corporation has been entrusted with the preparation of the land for construction.

However, purporting to be the so-called environmentalists who are claiming privileges from the Presidential Secretariat, are clearing the main culprit President Sirisena and Minister of Power and Energy Ravi Karunanayake who got the approval of the Cabinet clean by distributing false information.

Is the role of the so called environmentalists to clean up the dirt of the political parties or the President who is causing destruction in the country, or  Ravi, who has been accused of major financial irregularities?
