One of the main reasons for the use of the Sri Lanka Rupee, was the Central Bank Robbery and the collapse of confidence in Sri Lanka the Foreign Investors had for the withdrawal of foreign exchange.
The following are the expenditures for some of the major infrastructure facilities built during the Mahinda Rajapaksa regime.
*Colombo-Katunayake Expressway - US $ 385 Million (Rs. 50 Billion)
*Colombo-Galle Expressway - US $ 740 Million (Rs. 96 Billion)
*Galle-Matara Expressway - US $ 155 Million (Rs. 20 Billion)
*Norochcholai Coal Power Plant - US $ 900 Million (Rs. 117 Billion)
*Hambantota Port - US $ 1100 Million (Rs. 143 Billion)
*Mattala Airport - US $ 240 Million (Rs. 31 Billion)
*Total US $ 3,520 million (Rs. 458 billion)
The Government of Sri Lanka in 2017 had a letter of four billion rupees in foreign debt and after the Yahapalanaya government came in contact with the Rupee, 16% of the debt to Sri Lanka had increased by Rs 500 billion.
Because of this fraud caused the Yahapalanaya government, the Rupee has downgraded.
