Due to the conflict between the legislature and the executive, the National Security Council was not called. Even though pre-warnings had been given, they were all ignored. Three hundred innocent lives were lost and destroyed due to leaders that carry an arbitrary and insensitive policy. Regarding this matter, His Eminence Archbishop Malcolm Cardinal Ranjith stated that everyone in the government should go home and hand over the country to a person who can do a better service to the country.
This statement was made by the Cardinal during the occasion on the 21st of July 2019 of the Divine Liturgy of the Re-dedication after the renovation of the St. Sebastian's Church in Katuwapitiya, Negombo, which was destroyed by the terrorist attacks on Easter Sunday and the Divine Liturgy that took place at the same time for those who died in the attack.
The Cardinal also stated:
"The attack on Katuwapitiya, Kochchikade, Batticaloa Zion Church, hotels and restaurants, I feel for everyone...I feel their pain and sadness.
From the church of Saints, another 120 Saints were born. Even people who follow other religions were also killed in this attack. Our very own country's brothers and sisters were killed. This attack could have been averted. Information has been received that there had been a sufficient time period to avert the attack. The Indian High Commissioner informed that the government officials were informed of this attack before the attack. If so, this attack could have been avoided.
Unfortunately for us, this catastrophe happened because of the hustle and bustle of the selfish bankrupted politicians.
They appoint committees as they wish, so that they can obtain votes by providing cnny records. Though they say they have handed over such documents, I haven't seen them yet. Since the seventies, there have been murders, tire seams, floating in rivers. There were different governments that came into power. So many committees have been appointed. Not one single leader released those reports. This the reality of this country.
Through the political culture of the ones who rule the country, all of this is hidden under the red carpet. Because of this, they cannot be trusted.
There was an article in the newspaper on Wednesday (17th of July) that the leader of ISIS is living in a powerful country. Does that mean that the ISIS leader is a handful in that country?. A group of people are trying to destabilize the country by causing the Sinhalese and Muslim riots. Can you believe that the young people have sacrificed their lives for the Islam religion?. This is an international conspiracy.
This is the biggest destruction that took place since the Independence. How did international organizations get involved?The United Nations Organization is a group of people that makes the truth lies and makes the lies the truth. They can't be trusted. Even though they came after the incident, they went to find justice for the wrong-doers who were arrested. They don't care for the victims who had to face this tragic incident. The leaders of our country are afraid to act against them.
I tell the Muslim people, the Easter Sunday attack for not done on by you all. This was an act done by a group of youth who was mislead by some international conspirators. Muslims are not to be blamed for this. The Muslims have become victims of international conspiracies. I call upon you to join us to stand against these extremist ideas to contempt the Muslim religion.
To prevent these foreign forces of controlling the power in our country, the politicians of our country do not have a backbone to do so. Leaders should help to solve these problems without dragging each other's leg. The once State Intelligence Service was destroyed. The United Nations halted and destroyed the international agencies of our country to appease Human Rights Organization to meet International obligations. Nothing was done during the Vanathavillu incident. Those who revealed the persons who destroyed the Mawanella Buddha Statue were shot and the incident was swept under the carpet.
Forgive these stupid people. I mean, don't hold on to hate. Don't bother the Islam people. Treat them with respect. Let's all join hands against extremist ideas. I call upon the Muslim community in the world to unite to liberate the world from terrorism.
It is up to the public to decide whether to hand over the country to such a juvenile government."
